The Gal's Guide

I found The Gal's Guide blog recently and instantly loved Mariah's smart style. This is the first illustration I've done for her blog. I finished this drawing on marker paper with a ballpoint pen, copic markers, and a gel ink pen (for spots of intensity). The copic marker wasn't absorbing with the layering so I made the texture eventually work for me. Happy accidents!

A few months ago I started this sketch, but I didn't know where it was going...I moved on and turned the page. Luckily last weekend I had a lot of extra gouache in my pan and decided to finish this with a simple play of color and shape. I used Holbein's Acryla Gouache and a ballpoint pen. This formula is an acrylic/gouache hybrid and so far I love how it layers! I'll be working with more water-soluble paints for some beauty-related posts in the next couple weeks.
